Celebration of Sherlock Holmes’s 160 Birthday takes place in Riga
International entertaining event that unites all the fans of a great detective will be hosted in the capital of Latvia for a third time on January 4, 2014. The popularity of the great crime fiction of Sir Conan Doyle significantly increased over last few years because of the recent crime dramas including ones directed by Guy Ritchie and ones acted by Benedict Cumberbatch, who created the modern image of classic intelligent Holmes.
Significantly, Riga was a hosting platform for shooting the “Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson” series, acted by Vasily Livanov, who is awarded with a membership of the Order of British Empire. So the city now supports the current global trend with unique event - "Sherlock Holmes’s Birthday”.
Event aims to bring together attractive followers of Holmes and other characters of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle detective story to participate in a costume parade. The procession starts at 1pm from the Academy of fine arts. The main stage and the final point of the parade are located at the Town Hall Square, where the award ceremony, concert, the parade of British dog breeds and a lot of other festive activities including “Sherlock Holmes Cinema” festival movie shows, Holmes style photo shoots and a variety surprises will take place.
